Metro Sports Facility Early Contractor Involvement Agreement Terminated
Ōtākaro has terminated the Early Contractor Involvement agreement with Leighs Cockram Joint Venture Ltd for development of the Metro Sports Facility. This was due to concerns about the price submitted to complete the design and construction of the facility, and the level of risk that would remain with the Crown and the Christchurch City Council.
The design of the facility is now 90% complete. Ōtākaro will complete the design as currently planned by around March 2018 and will continue to seek input from the relevant sports stakeholders on the design as required during the final stages.
In parallel, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) will take the opportunity to conduct a review of whether it would be beneficial to combine part or all of the Metro Sports Facility with the proposed Multi Use Arena.
Once this review is completed, a decision can be made on whether to proceed with a build-only tender process for a facility as currently planned or to begin the development of a combined facility.
If the current design proceeds, a tender will be issued in around April/May 2018 and a construction timetable will be established after completion of this tendering.
